A women-owned small business in Bend, Oregon
The suns energy makes life possible. Energy for life.
Pursuing a passion and a dream
Born and raised in small towns of Umatilla County in Eastern Oregon, becoming high school sweethearts and sharing the love of nature and the great outdoors, Mike and Kelli Hewitt have spent their lives together in pursuit of living a simple, sustainable life and leading by example.
Dreams were replaced by reality after volunteering for Central Oregon's first Solar Tour in 2000. Mike and Kelli's plans for a new way of life were solidified while driving home on that fateful weekend. Within a few months they embarked on a life-changing adventure toward that dream; it began with the sale of their Portland home followed by a move to Bend. After purchasing a small parcel of property they embarked on what would become a three-year process to build a straw bale, off-grid home. During those years of work, they lived on site in a trailer where their motivation to live sustainably and to help others do the same, grew. After achieving their lifetime dream, Mike and Kelli set their sights on creating a career path that followed their personal philosophy. E2 Solar became that path. As for the couple’s lifestyle choices and business philosophy they say: “Driven by our passions and working to transform our energy future is who we are. It provides us a sense of purpose and satisfaction knowing E2 Solar contributes to the strength of our local economy and preserves the natural beauty and quality of life in the community we live. Sustainability is at the core of everything we do.”
Small Business - Big Values
E2 Solar is a women-owned, small business based in Bend, Oregon. Founded in 2005 by Mike and Kelli Hewitt - two passionate individuals with a desire to assist in upholding the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest by providing clients the very best in clean, sustainable energy solutions.
Our mission is simple: To deliver quality and innovative renewable energy solutions while using business to support and enhance the communities in which we serve. We pride ourselves on the quality and care given to each project and delivering technologically advanced solar systems of incredible performance so you are sure to realize the benefit of solar energy for generations.
What is E2 Solar?
We are often asked, "what does E2 stand for?" Well, if you could see energy, what would it look like? At E2 Solar, we envision energy. We envision an energy future where entire mountaintops in the densely forested slopes of the Appalachian Mountains are not removed for coal mining. Or where communities are concerned about the potential contamination of drinking water and air quality from hydraulic fracking. We see a different world to pass down to future generations. A world where electricity is captured from abundant natural resource of the suns radiant light. Clean energy from the power of the sun, clean energy that powers our future. Solar is not just our story, it's our way of life, it's the energy that keeps us all connected.

NABCEP Certified PV Installer, 092411-73
Limited Renewable Energy Technician, LRT 057
Earth Advantage Institute Sustainable Homes Professional
E2 Solar’s co-founder and Operations Manager, Mike, oversees the daily operations for both residential and commercial projects. With nearly two decades decades of experience in the solar industry, Mike’s passion for solar-based energy independence is only eclipsed by his commitment to renewable energy as the source of our planet’s health and longevity.
Mike has achieved the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV installer certification, the highest level of industry accreditation in the United States. He has advanced knowledge in the area of energy efficiency as an Earth Advantage Institute Sustainable Homes Professional as well as comprehensive training and expertise in solar technology, design principals and performance criteria. When not at work or with Kelli and the dogs, Mike enjoys exploring Oregon’s backcountry with a fishing rod, a camera or both.
Born and raised in Western Kentucky, Ralph has been an electrician since 1984. He began his career on the Gulf Coast of Florida, migrated to Flagstaff Arizona and finally landed in Oregon in 1989. Commercial projects were Ralph’s specialty for his first 8 years in the industry. Looking to round out his talent and skill level he moved into the realm of residential work which included 14 years of self-employment. Ralph loves being “out west” and says he is here to stay. He especially enjoys working in the renewable energy field. Ralph has a great sense of humor which comes in handy on those hot-roof installation days.
Ralph was also heavily involved in the Deschutes County Search and Rescue program for nearly seven years and enjoyed it greatly. As of late he has been keeping his outdoor adventures a bit less adrenaline riddled. He enjoys camping—especially in the snow—and hiking, and of course the best beers of Central Oregon.
Limited Renewable Energy Technician #092LRT
Lanny walks the talk of his environmental convictions. When he joined E2 Solar in the fall of 2011 it became readily apparent that his extensive background in information and database technology would give E2 Solar the ability to manage large volumes of information with the effective precision you might expect to find only in a larger company. Lanny also lives “off the grid” in a custom built “earth” house east of Bend. His first-hand familiarity with the detailed workings of PV systems makes him a substantial asset to the E2 team. When not at work Lanny enjoys “finishing” his house and spending time with his family.
