Earth Day in Central Oregon: Rooftop Solar Offers Sustainability and Energy Independence

APRIl 22, 2026

Tall, rugged rock formations rise above a winding river and grassy landscape under a clear blue sky at Smith Rock State Park in Oregon.

Earth Day feels especially personal for us in Central Oregon. Here, the outdoors is part of our day-to-day, no matter the season — whether we’re paddling the Deschutes, climbing at Smith Rock, riding at Phil’s, spending a weekend at Mt. Bachelor, or enjoying a high desert sunset.

At E2 Solar, we are grateful to live in this special place, and we are serious about protecting its future.

Meeting Land and Energy Challenges in Central Oregon

As our region grows, more homes, more businesses, and more infrastructure place additional pressure on the resources and natural spaces we care about. This makes it all the more important for us to make energy choices that align with our values.

Wildfire is another reality for our communities. Smoke caused by fires affects our air quality, outdoor recreation, and ability to enjoy a summer day outside. Cleaner energy alone won’t solve wildfire dangers and impacts, but reducing our dependence on fossil fuels helps support environmental progress (and helps us keep the lights on during outages).

Land conservation is important, too. From the views around Tumalo and the edge of development near east Bend to Sisters and Redmond, people in our region want growth that respects the landscape. Rooftop solar helps meet our growing energy needs without putting more pressure on undeveloped land.

As Central Oregon Grows, Rooftop Solar Helps Meet Energy Demand

As more people move to Central Oregon, demand for electricity continues to rise. That can mean more strain on the grid and more uncertainty around future utility costs. Rooftop solar gives local homeowners and businesses a way to generate more of their own power, which can help reduce dependence on outside energy sources and create more long-term stability.

Rooftop solar also uses existing buildings to generate energy on-site instead of taking up open space to build new infrastructure. This is a practical solution for communities like ours that want to preserve scenic views, protect wildlife habitat, and avoid unnecessary sprawl.

Much of Central Oregon also gets plenty of sun, making rooftop solar a way to turn sunshine into usable energy right from home. For the homeowners and business owners who value energy independence and the environment, solar is an economical way to protect the place we love and its future.

A Future We Believe Is Worth Protecting

Earth Day reminds us that, even in the midst of growth, Central Oregon’s rivers, forests, trails, mountain views, and open spaces need protecting. Rooftop solar is one way to help do that. Not only does this form of renewable energy conserve land, but it also supports cleaner air and helps people gain more energy independence.

At E2 Solar, we’ve spent the last 20+ years helping local families and businesses make use of the sunshine at our disposal to build resilience and reduce pressure on resources. (Our own building is near net-zero, powered by an advanced rooftop solar system, supported by battery storage, and backed by our company’s commitment to drive electric.)

We’re proud to be part of the solution, and we invite you to explore how rooftop solar can make an impact, not just in your home or business, but in our community.
